CWS starts the use of an EMOSS 12 tonne e-Truck

Since early May, CWS has officially launched its first 100% electric truck for use in and around Groningen (the Netherlands). The reason was a European tender, which obligated CWS to supply its 85 location free of emissions. EMOSS offered a solution with a 100% electric 12 tonne e-Truck.

CWS, supplier of sanitary and hygienic products, distributes from their location in the North of the Netherlands. The distance to the city center of Groningen is around 40 kilometers. “Just getting there and back was not going to be enough, as we need to supply dozens of locations every day,” said Harry van der Meer, CWS regional manager. “Emoss came up with a solution in the form of a 12-tonne distribution truck based on a DAF LF. Depending on the use, this lorry has a range between 180 and 200 kilometers. That’s more than enough for what we’re doing.”

The impact of the EMOSS EMS1220 is substantial in terms of sustainability and social involvement. With distances up to 700 km per week, more than 5800 liters of diesel will be saved annually, equivalent to an emission of roughly 16,000 kg of CO2. The agreement with the municipality of Groningen started on February 1, 2017 and has a maximum duration of 8 years. The municipality of Groningen expressed its full confidence in CWS, according to Albert de Roos, Purchasing Advisor of the municipality of Groningen.

Since February 1st, CWS was already on the road with a temporary solution from EMOSS, while work was being done on CWS’s own vehicle. Mart Noordam van Emoss: “We build these vehicles in Oosterhout based on, in this case, a DAF truck. This 12 tonner is equipped with a six-phase electric motor and a 120 kWh battery pack. Importantly, we are currently the only supplier with a certified battery pack for electric trucks. Our Emoss trucks are also included in the database of the firebrigade, which prevents any problems in case of incidents. Our Emoss electric trucks are therefore 100 percent safe. ”
For service, repair and maintenance a contract has been concluded with BSF in Leeuwarden, which serves as an official service partner of EMOSS in the Netherlands.
