The Digital Product Passport (DPP) for batteries: Emoss is prepared.
From 18 February 2027, a digital product passport will be mandatory for certain batteries in the European Union. These include batteries for electric vehicles and industrial batteries with a capacity of more than 2 kWh that are placed on the European market or put into service.
With the battery passport, the European Union aims to increase transparency about batteries throughout their life cycle. This supports the broader shift towards more sustainable battery use, reuse and recycling.
One battery, relevant information available digitally
Every battery covered by the requirement will have a digital passport accessible via a QR code. Depending on the battery category, it will include information such as identification details, technical characteristics, performance and service life. Information needed for repair, reuse and recycling can also be made available.
This keeps important information available at different stages of the battery’s use. It gives manufacturers, users, repairers and recyclers a better understanding of the battery.

Emoss is ready for the deadline
For Emoss, this development comes as no surprise. We have been working with electric powertrains for heavy-duty applications for more than 20 years, with battery system safety, service life and reliable performance playing a key role.
From 18 February 2027, batteries covered by the requirement may only be placed on the European market or put into service with a digital battery passport. Failure to comply on time could therefore mean that these batteries can no longer legally be placed on the market.
Our systems, processes and data sources for the digital battery passport will be ready on time. This will allow us to make the required battery data available digitally as soon as the European requirement takes effect.
For us, the battery passport is more than a requirement. It provides greater insight into the battery throughout its life cycle: another step towards future-proof electrification.
