What is the EIA?
The Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) is a tax incentive offered by the Dutch government for investments in energy-efficient technologies. In the case of retrofit electrification, part of the investment in new, energy-saving components can be deducted from taxable profits.
Why is the EIA interesting for retrofits?
Unlike many subsidies for new electric vehicles, the EIA also applies to modifications to existing vehicles. As a result, retrofit projects are often eligible for financial benefits, whereas the purchase of a new electric truck may not be.

Approximately 10–11% net tax benefit;
A stronger business case for zero‑emission vehicles.
Which vehicles and components are eligible?
The EIA is suitable for the following applications and vehicle types:
(Urban) logistics >12 tons;
City waste: collection & sweeping trucks;
Terminal equipment: terminal tractors & reach stackers;
Ground support equipment: pushers, (high) loaders, apron buses, pallet transporters, catering trucks.
Other subsidies:
SSEB – retrofit or innovation for construction equipment.
How much financial benefit does it offer?
For a retrofit investment of, for example, €200,000, the tax benefit can amount to approximately €20,000, depending on the tax rate and the applicable Energy List.
Important to know
The EIA application must be submitted within 3 months after commissioning the project;
Only the energy‑efficient components are eligible;
The residual value of old diesel components is deducted.
