The Powertruck
Two specialists, one powerful solution
With the introduction of the Powertruck, Emoss and Rent a Battery demonstrate how innovation in electrification and mobile energy storage can come together.
An ambitious idea, built through collaboration
The Powertruck was born from a shared ambition: to make reliable, zero-emission energy available in places where grid capacity is limited or temporary power is required. By combining Rent a Battery’s expertise in mobile energy supply with Emoss’ electrification expertise, the partners created a solution that goes beyond traditional battery containers or diesel generators.
Rent a Battery developed the original Powertruck concept. Emoss turned that concept into reality by engineering and fully integrating the electric drivetrain based on the Emoss Endura platform. The result is a fully battery-electric truck that can store and transport energy, as well as supply it on location.
From diesel truck to mobile power plant
The development of the Powertruck began with the conversion of a conventional truck into a fully electric vehicle. Step by step, the vehicle was equipped with an electric drivetrain, battery modules and smart software. All systems were then thoroughly tested to validate performance, reliability and driving behaviour under real-world conditions.
With a battery capacity of 1 MWh and charging and discharging power of up to 200 kW, Rent a Battery states that the Powertruck is the world’s first battery-electric truck in this configuration. It is designed for construction and infrastructure projects, events and off-grid charging applications where a reliable and quiet energy supply is essential.
Built under intense time pressure
Over the past few months, a multidisciplinary Emoss team worked intensively to complete the project. Despite challenges, including delayed deliveries and a tight schedule ahead of the holiday period, the first truck was successfully built. Thanks to the commitment and flexibility of many colleagues, key milestones were achieved and the first test kilometres have now been completed.
The initial response from the market has been positive. The project is attracting attention and demonstrates how electrification can contribute to a more flexible and sustainable energy supply.
Official launch at Recharge Earth
After months of development, assembly, software validation and testing, the moment is almost here. On 16 September, the Powertruck will be officially unveiled at Recharge Earth at Rotterdam Ahoy. The truck will be prominently displayed on the outdoor plaza, while Emoss and Rent a Battery will be present together at the Innovation Plaza.
For Emoss, the Powertruck is more than a new vehicle. The project demonstrates how electrification, energy storage and smart collaboration can lead to practical solutions for customers who want to make zero-emission operations a reality today. It is a strong example of what becomes possible when innovation and execution come together.
